Ġnien Fuq il-Glażiż, named after the glacis it sits on—a sloping fortification feature—has transformed a neglected 9,000m² forested area into a vibrant public space. The garden is divided into informal areas, offering something for everyone. It includes a picnic area with benches, ideal for relaxing or socializing, and timber deck platforms for young people to unwind.
The play area stands out with adventurous equipment like climbing ropes and Malta’s first zipline in a playground. There’s also a dog park with an obstacle course for active pets. During renovation, great care was taken to preserve century-old trees, maintaining shade and the natural landscape. Pathways were designed to blend with the terrain, and historical masonry walls were restored.
The garden promotes sustainability with eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient lighting powered by solar panels, and recyclable elements, integrating heritage with modern recreation while requiring minimal maintenance. This revitalized space now serves the community and visitors alike, combining history, nature, and leisure.
