Majjistral Nature Park is located in the northwest of the island, covering the coastal area from Golden Bay to Anchor Bay and extending inland towards ix-Xagħra l-Ħamra. It was designated a National Park in 2007, named after the “majjistral” wind from the northwest.
The park is known for its rich natural and cultural heritage, making it a popular attraction. Visitors can explore military and rural historical sites, beautiful landscapes, diverse flora, bird-watching spots, natural caves, and stunning coastal cliffs. The area also holds ecologically significant habitats that are part of the Natura 2000 network. Other features include ancient rubble walls, cart ruts, an old farmhouse, Classical-period tombs, and more caves.
Visitors can enjoy kilometers of trails that showcase various Mediterranean habitats. Majjistral Park is open 24/7, though the Visitor Centre operates Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM. There are no sanitary facilities, and while pets are allowed if leashed, wheelchair access is only available up to the cliffs overlooking Golden Bay due to the rough terrain in other areas.
